Shawn Garner, a 1972 graduate of Kent State University, majored in multi-media studio art and design. As a student, his work received significant attention. It was displayed in juried shows and sold to private collectors. Following graduation, he wanted to follow a dream of combining design illustration, photography and scuba diving, so he moved to Key West, Florida, and established 'Fluid Visions,' specializing in screen printed marine life art. By 1981, Fluid Visions had received international recognition for a unique side-wrapped printing technique he developed. His designs became a 'walking gallery,' appearing all over the world. It was still a classic cottage industry, but dive shops in Australia, the Caribbean, the Red Sea and the Pacific islands began to sell his merchandise. He was delighted when the National Aquarium in Baltimore and Sea World in Florida and California thought enough of his clothing line to place it in their gift shop. For the next 15 years, he developed, and copyrighted, more than 200 designs. In 1992, the Screen Printing Industry recognized his effort when they gave him their 'Decade of Accomplishment Award' for innovative design work. In 1998, he was selected by 'Strathmore's Who's Who' for his leadership and achievement in screen printing and design. But he wanted to be back in an art studio, so in 2000 he began to experiment with acrylic forms, large canvas art and modular furniture design. Many of his pieces involve a combination of techniques, such as airbrush, screen printing, brush detailing, sandblasting and blow-molding. He introduced a new generation of 'Fluid Visions' marine and environmental art at the 2007 DEMA Show - the Dive Equipment Marketing Association's annual convention - in Orlando.
